Every day the RSPCA attend over 3,000 critical calls and take in over 240 animals into their care. This is a mere fraction of the overall cases of animal suffering that are dealt with on a daily basis by the myriad of non government funded charities across the UK.
A cause we resonate strongly with is the RSPCA’s cat pod initiative. For just £6.50 a month, you can support a cat in need of love and safety. This low cost method provides critical care for a moggy in need but unfortunately this is just the start of what they need.
Every sentient soul deserves a chance to flourish, be well fed and live in a nurturing, inclusive environment. The cost of these live saving pods are just the start of the total cost it takes to rehome or rehabilitate a cat in need, let alone or dog or horse and this initiative is spearheaded by the largest animal protection charity in the UK.
UK Parliament reports that there are over 1,000 charities in the UK (cited May 2025) that solely focus on the rehabilitation and rehoming for cats, dogs and equine.
The UK Charity Classification (cited May 2025) report that 4,222 charities have been tagged with the tag of animal welfare which comprises just over 2% of the total charitable causes in the UK.
Help Your Local Animal Cause
Another charity close to our hearts and homes is Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary. For over 40 years they have been providing critical care for critters in need. They represent just 0.4222% of the causes dedicated to providing safe heavens and responsible rehoming of animals in the UK. This one charity alone had expenditure of over £1,200,000 in 2024 with £0 funding from the government.
Put a Stop to Animal Suffering
Please consider donating what you can to the RSPCA and or your local animal welfare charity.
These selfless causes need resources, time and money to limit animal suffering across the UK. Please see a non exhaustive list of ways you can help below:
- Sponsor a Cat Pod
- Fundraise for your local animal welfare cause
- Adopt a cat, dog or horse instead of raising one
- If you do decide to raise an animal, remember The Dog’s Trust infamous 1978 slogan (then known as the National Canine Defence League) “It’s for life, not just for Christmas”
